By analyzing biographical writings, childhood intellectual milestones, and correspondence from individuals living between 1450 and 1850, Cox and her team assigned estimated childhood and adult IQ scores to quantify their historical impact.
While Cox's methodology was an impressive academic effort, contemporary psychometricians emphasize that estimating historical scores is not clinically valid. A true IQ score requires a standardised, timed examination scored against a representative peer group.
